In today's post I am going to talk you through what I would class as my summer make-up essentials. So these are the items which I will use religiously throughout the summer time to achieve that bronzed, glowy make-up look which is suitable to wear everyday!

In the summer, when it is hot and humid outside, I definitely prefer to wear minimal make-up because personally I think it looks and feels so much nicer. If I wear a face full of make-up when the sun is beaming down I just feel sticky and it feels as if the products are just melting off my face..So I try to avoid that as much as possible because it is not cute! I like the feeling of my face being free and my skin being able to breathe, so the products I do wear are also very thin and light weight.
Everyone is going to have a different preference to the kind of make-up look which they like to wear in the summer, and if for you that is a full face of make-up then you rock it...There is no right or wrong when doing your make-up, it is just all about what you like and what you feel comfortable wearing! I just thought I would share with you the products I enjoy using to get a more natural look for this time of year. So if you would like to know what my summer essentials are, then please keep reading...

This first step I take is to even out my skin tone and cover any redness or blemishes that I would rather not be on show. Depending on the day and what I am doing there are two ways I will do this.
On a more lazy day, if I am just relaxing around the house or nipping to the shops I will only use a concealer. I will just apply this lightly on the targeted areas which I want to cover up, such as blemishes and dark circles. This is a great option because it is super quick, super easy and makes me look slightly more presentable than if I just leave my entire face bare.
However, what I chose to do more often than not is to apply a very light layer of foundation. The one I personally love for the summer time is the Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation. I prefer doing this over just a concealer because it gives a slight bit of coverage and just makes me feel that bit more comfortable when I am out of the house. There are many reasons I find this to be the perfect summer foundation; Number 1..It is ultra-light weight, so it is not sticky or heavy on the skin, it literally feels like you are wearing nothing. Number 2..It offers a very sheer coverage which can actually be built up to a light coverage. So if you just apply a thin layer you can still see your skin coming through and it looks just like your bare skin, which makes it really natural looking. Or, if you have areas that need a bit more coverage you can just add more product over the top and it will cover them for you without looking thick and cakey. Number 3..It adds a lovely dewy glow to the skin, which there is no denying, we all love for the summer. It can seriously transform your skin from looking dull to luminous and radiant in a second! And last but certainly not least (actually it is probably the most important factor), number 4..It has SPF in! This is something I always check for in my summer foundations because you definitely want something that is going to protect your skin from any harmful rays from the sun. If your foundation does not include SPF, I would advise putting on a moisturiser first that does, or any other product that does have it in (for instance, just normal sunscreen), as this is going to prevent the sun causing any damage to your skin! The only downside to this point is that you can really smell the SPF in the foundation, it genuinely smells as if you are just slapping sunscreen right onto your face. To be honest the smell did seem to linger for quite a while after application as well, I kept getting the occasional scent of it throughout the day! So if this smell is not something you like, bare that in mind and this foundation might not be for you!
An alternative to this product would be to use a tinted moisturiser or a BB cream, as these will give coverage and colour but will not give the feeling of foundation being on the skin. Admittedly I never use these products as I usually like a bit more coverage, but three I am desperate to try out are the Nars Tinted Moisturiser, the Laura Mercier Oil-Free Tinted Moisturiser, and the Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue Gel Cream. I have heard so many amazing reviews on all three of these products and I think it may be time to invest. These are the perfect choice for the summer time, because I feel like these are the best products to achieve that 'my skin but better' make-up look. Have any of you guys tried them out? Would you recommend them?

Bronzing up the skin is one of my favourite steps in my summer make-up routine because it gives the illusion of looking sun kissed, and it just makes you feel like a bronzer goddess! To achieve a more natural bronzed look in the summer I will use a cream bronzer rather than a powder and the one I particularly enjoy using is the Chanel Soleil Tan De Chanel Bronze Universal. I just take a small amount of the product on a flat top kabuki brush and really buff it into my skin and blend it out until my arm is numb! I apply the bronzer to all of the areas which the sun would naturally hit my face and it adds the perfect hint of colour to those places and gives my face back some dimension, rather than looking 2D like!

This step is not absolutely essential to do, especially of you are like me and have dry skin, but I normally go ahead and do it anyway just out of habit..And that is to set any creams on the face in place with a powder. I like to do this because I know my make-up will last all day long, however powder can take away that dewy, glowy look you want to achieve for summer, so you want to add it extremely lightly. A setting powder I have been loving lately is the Givenchy Poudre Premiere. This one is great because it is a translucent powder, so it does not add any extra coverage, and it does not alter the colour of the products you have previously added to the skin. This is exactly what you want because it means you can still see where you have cream bronzed and it does not take away from that effect you have spent time creating. As this is a mattifying powder it works well for the summer because it reduces the shine from the natural oils producing on the face throughout the day, so you will not end up looking like a hot, sweaty mess! This factor of the product makes it perfect for all my oily girls out there..it will work a treat! But like I say, you do still want a slight glow on your face, so go in with minimal product and a very light hand! I find this powder to be super long wearing, it really helps to keep the creams in place and stops the sun affecting them and melting them off in the heat. Another translucent powder that I am yet to try is the Laura Mercier Invisible Loose Setting Powder, and I think I am the only person in the world who has not tried it..I am seriously late with hopping on this product train, but I am telling you guys I will be on it at the next stop!
Alternatively, if you do not want to use any cream products on your face and you would rather stick to using powders, but you still want a slight bit of coverage, I would highly recommend the MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus. This is my one of my holy grail products and it is a powder foundation. If you are unaware to this type of product, it is basically a foundation that comes in the form of a powder, so it is really light weight on the skin but it still offers a good coverage and colour.

If you have seen my previous blog posts you will know that this is a new blusher I have recently tried and I have soon fallen in love with it, it is GORGEOUS..Especially for summer! Benefit Rockateur Blusher is a lovely light rose pink shade which has a slight shimmer to it, so it adds the perfect flush of colour to the cheeks whilst the shimmers give you that extra glow! There is no such thing as too much glow in the summer, right?!
A lot of people I find like to go for a bright, vibrant blush in the summer, which does look lovely don't get me wrong, but personally that look is just not for me..I am extremely minimalistic when it comes to my blush, so I always go for a colour that is 'barely there' I guess you could say, and I apply it very lightly.

TIME FOR MORE GLOW! No matter what make-up look you are wearing for a summers day, drown yourself in your favourite highlighter and you will be good to go! Highlighter is a step that I NEVER miss out of my make-up routine in the summer because this is what makes it look like the sun is just beaming off your face. When you are going to be outside and in the sun, you have the excuse to highlight as much as your little heart desires, because it is okay to look oily and dewy! For the summer I like to use my MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in the shade 'Soft And Gentle'. This is a gorgeous highlight because it is a golden toned shade which means it looks more bronzey and just more summer appropriate, and the sun reflects off it beautifully! I slather this all over my cheek bones, bring it down slightly onto the apples of my cheeks, down the bridge of the nose, on the cupids bow, on the brow bone and sometimes on the centre of the forehead and centre of the chin. So just any area that the sun would naturally hit your face, you want to place your highlight. Exessive right?! BUT IT IS SUMMER, WHO CARES?! Call it 'Strobing' if you will, so you highlight to the max and create a healthy glow at the highest voltage!

When the weather is hot (Which I know is never here in the UK), I personally do not like to wear mascara. Even if it is waterproof, I still find it just gets irritating and ends up transferring everywhere around my eyes and transforms me into a panda! So, I will just take my Eyelash Curlers and give my lashes a bit of a curl to lift them up a little to make my eyes appear bigger and more open. I normally leave my eyes like this, it is very quick, very basic and very natural.

For my eyebrows, on a daily basis in the summer I like to try and achieve a more feathered out natural brow look. To do this I will take my MAC Eye Brow Pencil in the shade 'Lingering' and I will use this to outline the natural shape of my brow and then lightly fill in any sparse areas. I do this step really carefully with a very light hand and just use the pencil to do small strokes to give the illusion of tiny hairs. Feathered brows are really popular right now and I feel this product helps me to create great, natural looking results.

Now onto the lips. I like to wear something fairly basic and natural that has a slight bit of a shine to it. My favourite combination to do at the moment is to start off by using my MAC Lip Pencil in the shade 'Soar' to outline my lips and completely fill them in. Then I will go over the top of that with my Anastasia Beverly Hills Lipgloss in the shade 'Dainty'. The mixture of these two together is so nice, it creates a lovely baby pink colour on the lips which looks really pretty, really girly and really natural! The lipgloss also smells AMAZING, it smells like butterscotch or something! I love this about it but it always seems to make me hungry for something sweet..And I have a bit of a sweet tooth, so if I start eating something, I will not stop! I never usually like to wear a lipgloss on a day-to-day basis as sometimes they leave behind a sticky feeling, but for the summer I feel like it is a must because it makes the lips look glossy and more full. Also, the Anastasia Beverly Hills lip glosses do not feel tacky or sticky in the slightest..Bonus!

Now, to finish off the look I will spray a ton of MAC Prep And Prime Fix + over my face. This really helps to bring all of the make-up together and make it look flawless. It also emphasises the dewy glow already created on the skin, which we all know by now..Summer is all about that glow girl! I will continue to spritz this over my face throughout the day if I feel my make-up needs to be retouched and it is just a dream product. MAC have recently released a line of scented Fix + sprays, and the one I have is the rose scented one which smells so refreshing! I believe most of the scented ones have now sold out in the US, but the formula and everything else is exactly the same as the original so they work just the same! I do not think the scented ones have been released in the UK yet, I believe they are coming in August some time..I am hoping anyway because I am dying to pick up the Cucumber and Coconut ones as well!

I hope you all enjoyed this post and liked seeing what sort of products are my make-up essentials for the summer time. I am planning on doing a separate post for you all soon to show you my everyday summer make-up look, so you will see me put all of these products into action and you will see pictures of the end result they achieve when used together. Be sure to keep an eye out for that if you are interested because it is coming your way VERY soon..It may even be the next one I post after this actually! What sort of make-up look do you like to wear in the summer? Is it similar to mine, or do you prefer something that gives a little more full coverage? Let me know in the comments below!
