COLLECTIONS FOR THE HOLIDAYS 2015 EDIT || TARTE

When it comes to these holiday collections, I am guilty of getting drawn in purely by the impeccable packaging, and for now I am momentarily getting lost in sequins!
Tarte is a brand that I hear SO much about but have never actually tried before since it is quite hard to get a hold of in the UK, unless you are willing to spend excessive amounts of money for shipping. I figured what better time to test out the brands products to see what I think than now? These holiday palettes give you the opportunity to try a variety of different products at a great discounted price, so I took the plunge and made a Sephora order specifically for this beauty.

This is the Tarte 'Light of the party' make-up case, which is a limited edition piece bought out for the 2015 Holiday collection. The set contains all of the essentials you need for the eyes and cheeks to create an endless array of perfect glamorous holiday make-up looks. I believe that each of the shades included in this kit are limited edition and exclusive to this palette, but please correct me if I am wrong! Altogether it includes 30 eyeshadows, 1 blusher, 1 bronzer, 1 highlighter, a travel-sized mascara and a dual sided brush for application. Honestly, what more do you need?!
The entire kit is housed in this beautiful large zippered case, which is covered in glitzy sequins all over the exterior lid. When you open up the case, it is split into two halves. The one side holds a removable travel palette and wells for the mascara and the brush, whilst the opposite side holds a fixed-in tray with 24 of the eyeshadows in. I almost wish that both sides were removable so that the case could be reused in the future, but unfortunately the trays are stuck in there rather tightly. This is such a shame because it would be a stunning box to keep jewellery in or any other special items you would want to store safely.
As nice as the packaging may be, it is heavy, big and bulky, so it is not a palette that is suitable for travelling (of course you have the small removable palette inside, but there are limited choices of products in there to use). The case is also not hinged at the side, so it will not prop itself open and sit at an angle. This may be difficult in smaller spaces because it will need the room to lay down flat. The main time I would find this to a major inconvenience is if I was wanting to use the mirror inside the case while applying my make-up - The mirror is placed beneath the removable compact, and to use it you would have to lean the lid against something to keep it in an upright position, so that it does not fall flat.
My overall thoughts on the packaging are that it is absolutely stunning to look at, but realistically it is not very practical.

I am going to start off by talking about the side that houses 24 of the 30 eyeshadows included.
The first impression that I got when I initially opened the lid of this palette is that it is all very subtle, neutral shades with the majority having cool undertones. From what I have heard previously about Tarte, they seem to follow the same route and a lot of their eyeshadow palettes that they release are of a similar colour scheme, where they include creams, beiges, taupes, greys, browns, blacks and a few plummy shades. They do not often feature bold, loud, vibrant colours - Not that I am complaining, because I am a total neutral eyeshadow girl at heart, but sometimes it is nice to mix things up occasionally! That being said, there is still a huge variety of shades in this set, which range from soft creams to shimmery golds to dark purples and stark blacks, so you should not be too stuck for choice!
Within these 24 eyeshadow shades, there is also a variety of different finishes, including some metallics, satins and frosts. However, matte shades do seem to dominate the majority of the palette. Matte eyeshadows are definitely my personal favourites, but at Christmas time it is nice to have the option of adding some glitter and sparkle to make your eyes really stand out!
All in all, I think there is a great range of shades with lots of variety. This set would be perfect for everyday make-up looks or would be great for someone who is just starting out with make-up and who does not feel confident enough yet to mess about with colour on their eyelids. However if Tarte had just added at least one pop of colour in there or some more warmer tones, the palette would of had the potential to be much more versatile and suited to many more people.

Here is a picture that I took of the palette with the flash on, just to give you more of an idea of which ones have what sort of finish to them.
Also, can we just quickly take a second to talk about the names of the shades - I mean, HOW CUTE?!..They are all Christmas inspired!

Now onto the opposite side of the case. This is where the removable travel palette, the mirror, the deluxe-sized mascara and the dual ended brush can be found. The mirror is hidden away underneath the compact palette, so if you plan on leaving this palette in the case, then you loose that added bonus of having a good sized mirror included.

Inside the detachable palette there is 6 more eyeshadow shades, 1 blusher, 1 bronzer and 1 highlighter. The packaging of this single palette is very lightweight and thin, making this a great little compact that would be perfect for travel. Its only downside is that it does not include a mirror on the inside!
Both the blusher and the bronzer included in this set come from the 'Amazonian Clay' range from Tarte. The blush in the shade 'Amazed' is a light-medium pink with soft warm undertones that has a matte finish. 'Social Butterfly' is a medium, warm-toned brown bronzer, that has yellow undertones and mostly a matte finish.
The highlighter 'Pink Champagne' is again an Amazonian Clay powder I believe, and this one is a brightened, pink-toned white with a metallic sheen.
The 6 eyeshadows that are cased in this palette follow the pattern of what I mentioned earlier on. They are vey soft, neutral shades that are nothing too intense. Included in here there are 2 creamy-pink shades, 2 taupe-gold shades an then a deep brown and a deep plum. Even though you get a limited range of eyeshadow colours in this travel palette, I still think you could create some lovely simple eye looks with it which would be perfect for day-to-day wear.

The mascara that comes in the set is a deluxe sized version of the Tarte 'Lights, Camera, Lashes' 4-in-1 mascara, which I have never used before but I have heard nothing but great things about it. It is claimed to add length and volume to the lashes, to curl the lashes, and to condition them as well - those are the 4 main benefits that this mascara possess. I am always on the look out for a new mascara to work wonders on my lashes, so I am super excited to give this one a try!

Lastly in this palette, you will also receive a dual ended mini eyeshadow brush, which has a slanted shadow brush on one end and a more fluffy blending brush on the other end. Normally I would not use a brush that comes in a kit like this because I find they are always of a lesser quality, however I do quite like this one. It is very helpful for application, great for bleeding out shadows and the bristles are really soft with no shedding issues.

Overall, I think this set has a mixture of positives and negatives about it, but if you are like me and your are new to Tarte cosmetics and are looking to test out some of their products, this kit is a great place to start because it includes a little bit of everything.
Admittedly, I have seen some negative reviews about the eyeshadows not being the true Tarte formula and not being as high of quality as the permanent range, but I have nothing to compare that to as this is the first time I have tried any Tarte eyeshadows. All I can say is that so far I have no issues and I do like the set. I am really happy I decided to splurge and get this Limited Edition 'Light of the party' Holiday palette.

I hope that you have all enjoyed Day 2 of my 'Collections for the Holiday 2015 edit' series. Did any of you treat yourself to some of the Tarte Limited Edition Holiday pieces? I would love to know your thoughts as well!
I cannot wait to try out more products from Tarte, I hear so many incredible reviews on the quality of their items and I love that they are a completely cruelty-free brand as well!

Thank you all so much for reading. Do not forget to follow me on Bloglovin' to make sure you do not miss out on any future posts, and in that case, I will speak to you tomorrow with a new (and VERY exciting) Limited Edition holiday collection!
