Liquid lipsticks are taking the beauty world by storm right now, and all different brands are releasing their very own range of them.
As the months have gone past I was starting to think that MAC Cosmetics were never going to jump on the bandwagon, but thankfully I was wrong and their own line of retro matte liquid lipsticks are finally here! MAC get it right every time with their new releases, and I am sure these liquid lipsticks are going to be a hugely sought-after addition to their permanent range.
For myself and many other beauty enthusiasts, liquid lipsticks have become an extremely popular choice of lip product over the last few months..We just cannot get enough of them! A good liquid lipstick has strong pigmentation and super staying power, which makes them a perfect choice if you want your lipstick to last all day and all night long.
The Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour collection from MAC offers an incredible 15 shades, including subtle nudes, neon pinks, bright reds, bold purples and vibrant oranges, so there is definitely something for everyone!
For my first order I did not want to go to crazy, so I decided to only order two shades to see what my opinions were on them first before committing to buying more of them. I chose to purchase the two nude shades from the range, 'lady-be-good' and 'back in vogue', because we all know how obsessed I am with nude lips!

The packaging of the MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipsticks is very similar to the MAC Lipglasses, except these ones have the classic lipstick lid. It is a very simple, sleek design and I am quite impressed with it personally.

The doe-foot applicator wand is an elliptical shape, which helps make it that little bit easier to trace the lips for a more accurate may take some practise with the darker shades in the collection though, as these kind of bolder colours are always more difficult to apply. I find with Liquid Lipsticks it is always best to line your lips first with a lip pencil and then go in with the lipstick over the top - doing this not only makes it easier to get a more precise application, but the liner also acts a barrier between the liquid lipsticks and your lips which in essence makes the product slightly less drying as well.
Due to the top of the tube not being very wide, the wand does not pick up too much product, which is something I really like. It is usually very easy to go a bit over board with liquid lipsticks and layer them up, but if you do this too much the lipstick will start to feel a little heavy and it will become more prone to flaking off and not lasting as long..the less you use, the better!

Lady-Be-Good is described by MAC as a warm mid-toned nude and I cannot even begin to explain how much I love this colour. It is the perfect pinky-nude shade and it will pair nicely with so many different make-up looks. I can definitely see myself getting a lot of wear out of this one!

Back In Vogue is described as a peachy nude and it is very similar to Lady-Be-Good, but this one has a slight hint of pink tones in it. I have a big love for subtle, peachy toned lipsticks like this one, as I feel they really compliment my skin tone. In my liquid lipstick collection I have a lot of shades but I do not think I have anything quite like this one, so I am very excited about it!

The first time I swatched these lipsticks I could not believe just how pigmented they are - all you need is one swipe and you can achieve an opaque coverage of colour, that matches the exact shade shown in the tube. I really like the fact that they transfer onto the lips in the true shade and they do not alter at all, because there is nothing worse than picking a colour lipstick that you love the look of, and then when you try it on it looks completely different on your lips..I hate it so much when that happens! But with these liquid lipsticks it is not an issue, the colour you see is the colour you get.
At first, when you apply the product onto your lips it feels very creamy, and I would say it only takes around 30 seconds to a minute until the formula will completely dry down to an ultra matte finish. Being matte liquid lipsticks the formula is obviously going to be quite drying on the lips. No matter what brand you purchase them from, they will always have the same is in the nature of a matte lipstick! I have tried liquid lipsticks from so many different brands including, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Dose of Colors, Stila, Too faced and so on, and they are all very drying, but I can honestly say that these ones from MAC seem to feel a lot less drying than any I have ever tried in the past..I really am pleasantly surprised (not that I should be because I know MAC never let me down)! Of course they still feel slightly drying, I am not going to tell you they feel soft and nourishing because they don't, but they feel a lot kinder to my lips than others I have purchased from different brands. As I suffer from dry lips, matte liquid lipsticks can often be my worst nightmare, so this is a factor that gives these massive brownie points from me! If you are similar to me and you also suffer from dry or chapped lips then I will always recommend exfoliating and moisturising your lips before applying any liquid lipstick..especially with these ones because they are not just matte, they are retro matte (matter than matte) many times can I say matte in one sentence?! As there is no shine or gloss to these at all, they will settle into any cracks or fine lines on your lips and make them extremely visible, so it is best to take these steps and get your liquid lipstick looking the best is possibly can! Another tip I would give you is one I mentioned previously and that is to apply a lip liner all over your lips first and then go over the top with the liquid lipstick. I do this every time without fail because it means the liquid lipstick will grab onto the lipliner and not the actual lips, so it acts as a base and the product will not dry out your lips as much. If you apply lip liner underneath you will also be prolonging the wear time of the liquid lipstick..not that they need any help in that department because their staying power is insane!
I went out for the day with my mum last week and I decided to wear Lady-Be-Good to test it out. I had it on from about 7am and I did not do any touch ups until around 3pm. Honestly, I didn't really need to do any touch ups at that point because it was still in place, looking as perfect as when I first put it on. I had been eating, drinking and talking throughout the whole day and it had not budged at all! I am so impressed I cannot even explain to you. I know it is expected of matte liquid lipsticks to stay in place all day without needing to be re-applied constantly, because that is one of their qualities but I was surprised at how long it actually lasted. I truly think I could of left it until about 7pm and it still would have looked just as good (I will have to test that out soon)

Overall I am extremely impressed with the new Retro Matte Liquid Lipstick collection from MAC. I would go as far to say, they are definitely up there with Anastasia Beverly Hills as some of my favourites!
I love nothing more than a matte lip, so these are definitely the perfect option for me and I cannot wait to start collecting all of the other shades I am lusting over from this range! Have you purchased any of these ones yet? What shades are you loving and what are your thoughts on them? Leave me a comment down below letting me know what colours you think I should pick up next!
